Steve Melia

Steve is a Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Transport & Society (University of the West of England). His research interests focus on transport policy and the relationship between transport and the built environment, introducing the concepts of ‘filtered permeability’ and ‘the paradox of intensification’ into the literature and debate in these areas. His input to the life transitions project will focus on the relationships between household travel and measures of the built environment at neighbourhood or settlement level. His PhD on potential for carfree development in the UK involved studying examples elsewhere in Europe and quantitative and qualitative research in the UK focussed on households who live, or might consider living, without a car.
